Greg Hunt questions Queensland's COVID-19 test mandate for interstate travellers

Queensland has stood firm on the demand that all travellers from interstate hotspots must show they have returned a negative PCR test within the previous 72 hours, despite the $150 cost per test for anyone with no COVID symptoms.

Now the federal health minister has written to his Queensland counterpart Yvette D'Ath, saying he was concerned that vaccinated domestic travellers arriving from a COVID-19 hotspot declared by the Queensland Chief Health Officer would be required to get the test.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said yesterday that Queensland's PCR test requirement for visitors was likely to stay "until we get to that 90 per cent double dose".

"They're also required in other states as well, it's not just Queensland," she said.

Here's what's happening in other states:

South Australia will require fully vaccinated travellers to quarantine for seven days and get tested if they are arriving from a Local Government Area with community transmission that has a double-dose rate of less than 80 per cent
Western Australia will demand arrivals provide evidence of a negative PCR test taken in the 72 hours prior to travel, for vaccinated travellers from interstate once the state hits 90 per cent of people over 16 with two doses of vaccine
In Tasmania, fully vaccinated travellers returning from a high-risk area once the state reaches 90 per cent double-dose vaccination will require a negative COVID-19 test
The Northern Territory will introduce rapid antigen testing from December 20 for all fully vaccinated arrivals from "red zones"
Victoria requires fully vaccinated travellers to get a PCR test on arrival and quarantine until receiving a negative result if travelling from a "red zone"
